Selim, Sim lead HWS at Individual Nationals

PHILADELPHIA, PA.—The Hobart and William Smith squash teams concluded their 2023-24 seasons at the College Squash Association Individual Championships at the Arlen Specter Squash Center. Seven Herons and Statesmen competed in Philadelphia this weekend.
 
HWS was led by senior Laila Selim and sophomore Nathalie Sim who reached the consolation finals of their respective draws.
 
Senior Hussein Labib and first-year Dhirren Rajarathinam represented Hobart. Selim and Sim along with seniors Jada Smith-Padmore and Rafaela Albuja Sanchez and junior Anna O'Connor represented the Herons.
 
HOLLERAN SOUTH
  • Two Herons competed in the Holleran South draw, Smith-Padmore and Sim.
  • Sim was 2-2, while Smith Padmore was 0-2.
  • On Friday, Sim opened the tournament against Dickinson's Anna Fayyaz. Fayyaz won 11-7, 11-3, 11-5.
  • Later in the evening, Sim advanced in the consolation draw, besting Wesleyan's Mira Bakshi, 11-7-11-6, 11-2.
  • In Saturday's consolation semifinal, Sim swept Colby's Abhisheka David, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5. It was Sim's second victory over David this season.
  • This morning Trinity's Noa Romero edged Sim 11-9, 11-5, 3-11, 11-7, in the consolation final.
  • Sim concludes her season with a 13-5 overall record.
  • Smith-Padmore was 7-9 this season and 23-14 for her career.  

HOLLERAN EAST
  • Selim was 2-2 in the Holleran East draw
  • On Friday, She opened the tournament against Trinity's Janna Ashmawy, who went on to reach the championship match. Ashmawy won 14-12, 11-8, 11-8.
  • Later that evening, in the consolation quarterfinals, Selim beat Denison's Antoinette Ramsey, 11-1, 11-1, 11-6.
  • The next day, she edged Franklin & Marshall's Aryaa Ogale, 11-9, 13-11, 9-11, 9-11, 11-3. It was Selim's second win over Ogale this season.
  • Selim was edged by Vharsha Dinesh, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, in the consolation final.
  • Selim concludes her season with a 12-8 overall record.
 
HOLLERAN NORTH
  • Albuja Sanchez competed in the Holleran North draw. She went 1-1, advancing to the quarterfinals.
  • She opened the tournament with an 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 victory over Bates' Navya Gupta.
  • Albuja Sanchez was edged in the quarterfinals by Sanya Vats, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 12-10.
  • She finished her season with a 13-5 record.
 
HOLLERAN WEST
  • O'Connor competed in the Holleran West draw.
  • She was defeated in both her matches, but put up a strong fight against Josephine Klein in the consolation quarterfinal, 11-6, 11-9, 11-2.
  • O'Connor concludes her season with a 10-5 record.
 
MOLLOY SOUTH
  • Labib was 1-1 in the Molloy South draw.
  • He opened the tournament with a come-from-behind victory over Dartmouth's Christian Shah, 11-8, 9-11, 5-11, 11-8, 12-10.
  • In the quarterfinals, he was edged by Trinity's Abdelrahman Nassar, 15-17, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6. Nassar went on to win the draw.
  • Labib finished the season with a 10-12 overall record. He was 31-30 for his career.
 
MOLLOY EAST
  • Rajarathinam was 1-2 in the Molloy East draw.
  • He was swept by Franklin & Marshall's Kyle Broadhurst 11-6, 11-9, 11-4.
  • Later that evening, he beat Western University's Amin Khan, 11-7, 11-5, 11-0.
  • In the consolation semifinals, Rajarathinam was edged by Bates' Alec Spiro, 4-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-8, 13-11.
  • Rajarathinam concludes his rookie campaign with a 19-3 overall record. He was a perfect 12-0 in the No. 2 spot.
