#14 Statesmen conclude homestand against Hawks, #13 Violets this weekend

The 14th-ranked Hobart volleyball team is set to complete its six-match homestand with a pair of UVC matches in Bristol Gymnasium this weekend. The Statesmen will host SUNY New Paltz Saturday, March 9, at noon. Hobart will then host No. 13 New York University on Sunday, March 10, at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN 

  • Hobart (13-7, 1-2) is No. 14 in the AVCA national poll and is coming off its first conference win in program history after defeating No. 15 Nazareth 3-0 on Wednesday.  
  • Graduate student Andrew Kim leads the nation in both kills per set (5.65) and points per set (6.41). 
  • First-year setter Zack Farren leads the UVC in assists per set, averaging 9.97 this season. Against the Golden Flyers, he recorded a match-high 40 assists. 
  • Daniel Sappia has been consistently productive for the Statesmen's offense this season. The first-year is ranked sixth in the conference with 3.59 kills per set. 
  • First-years Grayson Getz and Aiden Kemora both had impressive performances against Nazareth. Getz recorded a career-high .857 hitting percentage, while Kemora chipped in nine kills (.538). 
  • On defense, first-year Gavin Meador leads the Statesmen in digs per set (2.61), which ranks him third in the league.  
ABOUT THE HAWKS 
  • New Paltz (14-8, 0-1), which is receiving votes in this week's AVCA poll, pulled off a huge five set upset against No. 4 Springfield on Wednesday.   
  • Pat Wing has been the center of the Hawk's offense this season. He leads the team in both kills per set (4.42) and points per set (5.03). Wing ranks third in the conference for kills per set, and fourth in points per set. 
  • Matt Marusza has been a playmaker for the Hawk's offense, averaging 8.84 assists per set. He is seventh in the league in that category. 
ABOUT THE VIOLETS 
  • NYU (8-5, 0-1) is No. 13 in AVCA poll. The Violets swept Kean University in straight sets on Wednesday. They will take on Elmira College on Saturday, before heading north to Geneva.  
  • Ry Kagan and Luke Boyer lead the Violet's offense. Kagan records a team-high 3.20 points per set, while Boyer averages 2.61 kills per set. 
  • Kagan leads the league, averaging 1.11 blocks per set. Following closely behind is Buddy Cohen with 0.95 blocks per set.
