Hobart 3V8 earns bronze at NIRCs

WORCESTER, Mass.—The Hobart rowing team's third varsity eight won a bronze medal at the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond this afternoon. In total, the Statesmen raced in three grand finals and a petite final this afternoon.
 
Hobart finished the regatta with four top 10 finishes, placing eighth in the varsity eight, fifth in the second varsity eight and sixth in the fourth varsity eight.
 
THIRD VARSITY EIGHT
  • The Statesmen's third varsity eight claimed a bronze medal for the second straight season.
  • This year's Hobart 3V8 was powered by Isabel Goldblatt-Hamilton, Magnus von Krusenstiern, Sam Peeler, Nicholas Short, Tibor Teleki, Jake Hodge, Jake Shue, Holden May and Kire Richardson. The boat entered the weekend ranked 24th in the IRCA Men's Heavyweight 3rd Varsity Eight Poll.
  • In the morning heats, the Statesmen were matched up with Tufts, Williams, Marist and the University of New Hampshire. Hobart finished second, stopping the clock at 6:24.051, securing one of three spots in the grand final.
  • This afternoon, the 3V8 was matched against The Jumbos, and the Ephs from its heat and Trinity, Wesleyan and Bates from Heat No. 2. Hobart crossed the line first, stopping the clock at 6:24.33. The Statesmen were just behind the Bobcats, who stopped the clock at 6:24.277.
 
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
  • Hobart's 2V8 was powered by Leah Henning, Owen O'Connor, Tobias Shaffer, Jayden Dasher, Álvaro Paulin, James Denson, Ryan Behar, Ryan Mulflur and Mason Fairfield.
  • With three heats, the top two finishers advanced to the grand final, the next two progressed to the petite final and the slowest two boats rowed in the 3rd level final.
  • In their heat, the 2V took on Tufts, MIT, Hamilton and Skidmore. The Statesmen finished second with a time of 6:13.847.
  • In the grand final, Hobart was paired with Tufts, Williams, Wesleyan, Trinity and Marist. The Statesmen crossed the line fifth posting a time of 6:24.418. The Jumbos won the event, finishing with a time of 6:10.592.
  • The Statesmen's 2V also placed fifth last year.
 
VARSITY EIGHT
  • Sam Hyman, Trevor Beatley, Sean Madden, Conrad Palmer, Adam Pomerantz, Colin Mester, Ben Brodney, Charles Watroba and Aidan Vanek competed in the 1V for the Statesmen.
  • Like the second varsity eight race, the top two boats in each heat advanced to the grand final, the second and third place boats competed in the petite final and the slowest boat in each heat progressed to the third level final.
  • In the morning heats, Hobart competed against Wesleyan, Bates, Iona and Hamilton. The Statesmen were third, stopping the clock at 6:13.343.
  • In the petite final, Hobart took on Colby, Coast Guard, Iona, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Marist. Hobart finished second with a time of 6:11.090.
