QUEENSBURY, N.Y.—The Hobart Alpine skiing team opened its 2025 season over the weekend as it competed in week one of USCSA action on West Mountain. The Statesmen finished first of nine in the giant slalom race on Saturday, and second out of nine in the slalom on Sunday. Hobart currently sits tied for first place with Colgate in the Mideast Conference standings.
In Saturday's giant slalom race, which included 58 racers, Hobart produced five top 20 finishers, including three in the top 10. First-year Will Patton made a strong impression in his collegiate debut as he finished first overall with a combined race time of 2:09.65. Following close behind was sophomore Ethan Hine who finished second with a time of 2:15.08. Junior Jack Ross crossed the finish line at 2:17.01 to finish fifth, while classmate Rex Eidlin finished 11th with a time of 2:21.64. First-year Jake Labanowski rounded out the top 20 finishers with a 16th place finish after stopping the clock at 2:23.34 in his collegiate debut.
In Sunday's slalom race, three Statesmen raced to top 20 finishes to clinch second place. Ross continued to impress with a second-place finish after stopping the clock at 1:48.48 after two runs. Junior John Meagher grabbed a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:55.33, while Hine came in 18th with a time of 2:03.36.

The Statesmen will be back in action next weekend for week two of USCSA action. The weekend will kick off with the giant slalom on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 9 a.m. on Labrador Mountain. Sunday's slalom races will be the following day at 9 a.m. on Greek Peak Mountain.
