BEND, Ore. –The Hobart Alpine skiing team capped off its most successful season in program history at the 2025 USCSA National Championships on Mount Bachelor last week. The Statesmen finished fifth out of 27 teams after competing in three events over the week.
First-year Will Patton and sophomore Ethan Hine highlighted Hobart's accomplishments on the mountain as the two combined for five All-America awards. Patton was named an All-American in the skier cross, giant slalom and slalom after finishing top 15 in each event, while Hine earned All-America honors in the Giant Slalom and Slalom races. Overall, Patton finished the week ranked fourth out of 143 racers, while Hine finished 11th.
On Tuesday, Hobart competed in the skier cross for the first time this season, finishing third out of 23 teams, to land on the podium at nationals for the first time in program history. The next day, the Statesmen finished sixth out of 27 teams in the giant slalom. On Thursday, Hobart closed out the week's action with a fifth-place finish in the slalom to clinch fifth place overall.
Patton had a standout week on the slopes, racing to All-American status in all three events to close out his rookie campaign. In skier cross, Patton finished fifth out of 89 racers to help the Statesmen clinch third place. Hobart finished behind Wisconsin and Army West Point to round out the top three teams. Junior Rex Eidlin and first-year Jake Labanowski also impressed in the skier cross, finishing 15th and 25th, respectively.
In the giant slalom, Hobart produced two All-American's as Patton and Hine raced to top 10 finishes to clinch sixth place out of 27 teams. The top 15 skiers of the event earned All-American recognition. Patton continued his dominance with a sixth place finish out of 143 racers with a combined time of 2:05.86. He was followed closely by Hine who was ninth with a combined time of 2:07.36.
In Thursday's slalom, Patton and Hine led Hobart to a fifth place finish out of 27 teams as both raced to All-American status yet again. Patton posted a fourth place finish out of 142 racers, stopping the clock at 1:24.42. Hine's time of 1:26.99 secured 13th place, clinching the fifth All-American honor of his collegiate career, closing out Hobart's most successful trip to the national championships.
