Three members of the William Smith soccer team were recognized by the Liberty League when the conference announced its weekly awards this afternoon. Senior
Julia Accioly was tabbed the Offensive Performer of the Week and first-year
Sofia Carney was tabbed the Rookie of the week. In addition, sophomore
Nell Dwyer earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.

The trio led the Herons to a 3-1 win over then No. 17 Vassar in Poughkeepsie, New York, on Saturday. With the win, the Herons improved to 9-2-2 overall his season and 5-1-0 in conference play, moving into a tie atop the league standings with the Brewers.

Accioly, a forward, was credited with the game-winning goal. In the 20th minute she fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that redirected off a defender and into the right side of the goal. It was her fifth goal of the season. This is the second time this season that Accioly has been named offensive performer of the week.

Carney assisted on the Herons' third goal of the game, an insurance goal in the 75th minute. She also played a role defensively for the Herons as they limited the Brewers to six shots on goal. Carney, who has played in all 13 games this season, was making her second career start. She has three assists.

Dwyer set up senior
Ruth Hotaling's goal in the 17th minute. She sent a long crossing pass into Hotaling as the senior collected her Liberty League-leading 12th goal of the year. Dwyer has started all 10 games she's played in this season, recording two assists.

William Smith will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, when it heads to St. Lawrence. The Liberty League contest is set for 3:30 p.m. in the North Country.
