NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team finished ninth at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1A hosted by Yale this past weekend, Oct. 7-8. With their finish, HWS earned a spot in the Open ACC Finals in Annapolis, Maryland
WEATHER REPORT
- Seven races were completed in both divisions on Saturday in 6-8 knot winds out of the southwest.
- Racers set out on Sunday in a five-knot breeze that quickly died as the race committee set the course. Teams stayed on the water until lunch, but the breeze died and no races were completed on Day 2.
RACE DETAILS
- HWS finished the weekend with 110 points, six points out of eighth place.
- Seniors Juan Carlos LaCerda Jones and Valyn Mogensen sailed in A Division, finishing in a three-way tie for fourth place with 51 points. When the tiebreakers settled, they placed fifth. The duo was second in the final race of the weekend.
- Juniors JJ Klempen and Stella Kim were ninth in B Division with 59 points. They were third in the sixth race.
UP NEXT
HWS will be back in action next weekend for three regattas. HWS will host the David Lee Arnoff Trophy on Seneca Lake. They will also be in Kings Point, New York for the Nevins Trophy. William Smith sailors will head to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the Women's ACC tournament.
