The Hobart and William Smith sailing team earned one of 10 at-large bids to the InterCollegiate Sailing Association Open Team Race National Championships. This year's regatta will be held April 23-25 in New Orleans.

Navy, Northwestern, Harvard, Stanford, College of Charleston and the host, Tulane, all earned automatic bids after winning their conference championships. Boston College, Brown, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Roger Williams, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Tufts, Pennsylvania and Coast Guard earned the other at-large bids.

Ten days ago in Ithaca, New York, HWS finished third at the Prosser Trophy, the MAISA Team Race Championship.

Laura Therien guided the team to a 7-7 record. HWS beat the Seahawks in a sailoff to earn a spot on the podium.

The Crimson are the defending national champions after finishing 20-5 in Providence, Rhode Island, last year.

HWS returns to the team race national championship for the first time since 2022, when it was also in New Orleans. HWS is making its 14th overall appearance at the regatta. They have earned a spot on the podium seven times, including winning the national championship in 2005.
