The Hobart volleyball team is set to join the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) as an affiliate member beginning with the 2027 season, the conference offices announced this afternoon. The Statesmen will continue playing in the United Volleyball Conference in the 2026 season before the UVC officially disbands.
Â
"We are extremely excited and honored to join the AMCC in men's volleyball for the 2027 season," said Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Brian Miller. "Hobart volleyball has quickly picked up steam, both regionally and nationally, in just two seasons of play as our newest varsity sport. The AMCC has been a great home for our William Smith bowling program, and we are grateful to continue that relationship with Hobart volleyball competing against the outstanding institutions within the conference."
Â
The addition of the Statesmen will keep the number of men's volleyball teams in the AMCC at seven in 2027. Full time members include Carlow University, Hilbert College, Mount Aloysius, Penn State Altoona and Penn State Behrend, with affiliate members Buffalo State and Hobart.
Â
"The AMCC is excited to welcome Hobart as an affiliate member in men's volleyball," said AMCC commissioner Jeromy Yetter. "The timing is ideal, and we look forward to Hobart continuing to elevate the strength and competitiveness of AMCC men's volleyball. Though a relatively new program, Hobart has quickly established itself as a rising presence at both the regional and national levels."
Â
In Hobart's first two seasons, the Statesmen have combined for a 38-20 overall record. Hobart has gone 6-8 in conference play, clinching a spot in the UVC playoffs in back-to-back seasons. The Statesmen have made themselves known on the national stage, climbing to as high as No. 9 in the AVCA national poll in 2025. Hobart has produced an All-American in both seasons as well as the UVC Player of the Year in 2025. Through two seasons, the Statesmen have collected six wins over nationally-ranked teams, including a 3-1 win over then, No. 7 Vassar on March 8, 2025.
Â
Hobart will open its 2026 campaign on Jan. 16, when it hosts the 2026 Hobart Tournament. The Statesmen will take on Russel Sage at 2 p.m., and Misericordia at 6 p.m., on Friday, and will close out the opening weekend against Hartwick at 11 a.m. and Buffalo State at 5 p.m. the following day.
