Hobart remains in 1st after 2 wins on West Mountain

The Hobart Alpine skiing team continued its dominant season by picking up two wins this weekend, Feb. 8-9, on West Mountain in Week 4 of USCSA competition. First-year Will Patton continued his impressive rookie season with first place finishes in both the giant slalom and slalom to lead the Statesmen to victory.
 
Saturday's giant slalom featured 57 racers and saw three Statesmen pick up top five finishes. Patton led with his first-place finish, coming in almost four seconds ahead of the runner up with a combined time of 2:03.39. Sophomore Ethan Hine finished third with a combined time of 2:08.08, while junior Jack Ross picked up the fourth-place finish with a combined time of 2:09.09. Hobart winning time of 6:20.56 was more than 14 seconds ahead of second place Cornell.
 
The slalom on Sunday featured 61 racers and saw four Statesmen notch top 10 finishes. Patton continued his reign with another first-place finish with a time of 50.30. Hine was right behind him in second place, stopping the clock at 51.42. Ross was sixth with a time of 53.85, while junior Luke Ward took seventh with a time of 54.27.
 
Through four weeks of competition, Hobart sits in first place in the Mideast Conference with eight team points. Colgate is second with 23 points, while Syracuse rounds out the top three with 25 points.

The Statesmen are back in action next weekend, Feb. 15-16, for the final weekend of USCSA action. The team heads to Truxton, New York, to compete on Labrador Mountain. Saturday's giant slalom race begins at 9 a.m., followed by Sunday's slalom race at 9 a.m.
