#11 Hobart concludes road trip with 2 UVC matches

The 11th-ranked Hobart volleyball team will be in action this weekend, Feb. 28- March 1, for two UVC matches on the road against New Paltz and No. 1 NYU.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN:

  • Hobart remained at No. 11 in this week's AVCA national poll. It's the Statesmen's sixth straight week ranked in the poll.
  • The Statesmen enter the weekend with a 17-3 overall record, 0-1 in UVC play. Hobart is coming off a 3-1 loss at Nazareth on Tuesday in its conference opener.
  • Graduate student Andrew Kim leads the nation in points per set (5.68). He leads the UVC and ranks second in the nation in kills per set (4.80) and ranks eighth in the conference and 22nd in the nation in hitting percentage (.388).
  • Sophomores Daniel Sappia and Noah DeLong add firepower offensively for the Statesmen, averaging 2.30 and 2.26 kills per set, respectively. The duo has also combined for 34 service aces and 37 blocks this season.
  • Sophomore Zack Farren and graduate student Benjamin Lincoln lead Hobart from the setter position, averaging 5.67 and 4.94 assists per set, respectively. Farren ranks seventh in the conference in that category.
  • Leading the Statesmen defensively is sophomore libero Gavin Meador, who is averaging a league-leading 3.16 digs per set which ranks ninth in the nation. Kim chips in 1.96 digs per set which ranks sixth in the UVC.
  • First-year Alain Malcolm has recorded a team-leading 40 blocks this season and ranks sixth in the conference, averaging 0.77 blocks per set.

ABOUT THE HAWKS:

  • New Paltz enters the weekend with a 5-8 overall record and will open conference play against Hobart.
  • Nikko Tenedorio leads the Hawks offensively, averaging 3.48 kills per set. Geoff Ndoria adds 2.17 kills per set for New Paltz.
  • Daniel Shanley averages a team-leading 7.87 assists per set.
  • Defensively, New Paltz is led by Tenedorio who averages 1.76 digs per set. Krish Jain leads the Hawks at the net, averaging 0.91 blocks per set.
  • Last season, Hobart defeated New Paltz 3-1 on March 9, 2024, in Bristol Gym. Kim led the Statesmen with 20 kills (.514), 10 digs and two service aces. Farren chipped in a match-high 43 assists.

ABOUT THE VIOLETS:

  • NYU is the nation's top-ranked team for the fourth consecutive week.
  • The Violets are 15-0 on the season with a 1-0 record in conference play. NYU will take on Elmira Friday before welcoming the Statesmen on Saturday.
  • Lucas Osiecki leads the Violets offensively, averaging 3.25 kills per set. He is followed by Emerson Evans with 3.16 kills per set.
  • Devin Nguyen averages a team-leading 10.49 assists per set which ranks second in the nation.
  • Defensively, NYU is led by Zach Knudsen with 2.05 digs per set. Ry Kagan leads the Violets at the net with 0.87 blocks per set.
  • Last time they met, NYU defeated Hobart in a five-set thriller in Bristol Gymnasium on March 10, 2024. Kim led the Statesmen with a match-high 28 kills (.328), 12 digs, three aces and two blocks. Farren tallied 47 assists.
