#10 Statesmen set for 3 nonconference matches this weekend

The 10th-ranked Hobart volleyball team will be in action this weekend, Feb. 7-8, with matches in Rochester, New York, and at home in Bristol Gym. On Friday, the Statesmen will travel to Nazareth to take on Manhattanville in a nonconference match before returning home to host a tri-match with Mount Union and Houghton on Saturday.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN:
  • Hobart is ranked No. 10 in this week's AVCA national poll, marking the fourth straight week the Statesmen have been ranked this season.
  • Hobart enters the weekend with a 10-1 record, most recently defeating Baruch, Emmanuel, and Endicott at the 2025 Fenway Volleyball Classic.
  • Graduate student Andrew Kim ranks fourth in the nation and first in the UVC in kills per set (4.88) and points per set (5.88). Kim also ranks 12th in the country in hitting percentage (.440).
  • Sophomores Noah DeLong and Daniel Sappia have also impressed for Hobart, averaging 1.97 and 1.88 kills per set, respectively. The duo has combined for 11 service aces and 23 blocks this season.
  • Sophomore Zack Farren and graduate student Benjamin Lincoln have led the Statesmen from the setter position and average 5.43 and 4.03 assists per set, respectively. Farren ranks ninth in the conference in that category.
  • Sophomore libero Gavin Meador is leading Hobart's defense, averaging a league-leading 2.97 digs per set. Kim chips in 2.0 digs per set which ranks sixth in the UVC.
  • First-year Alain Malcolm averages a team-leading 0.93 blocks per set which ranks second in the conference.
ABOUT THE VALIANTS:
  • Manhattanville enters the weekend with a 2-5 record and is coming off losses to Russell Sage and King's (PA) at the Sage Tri-match on Saturday.
  • Emil Medrano averages a team-leading 3.54 kills per set, while Kyle Simmons chips in 2.79 per set.
  • Idris Idris is the Valiants' leading setter, averaging 7.88 assists per set.
  • Idris and Evan Rapp lead Manhattanville defensively, averaging 2.12 and 2.00 digs per set, respectively.
  • Last time they met, the Statesmen swept the Valiants in Purchase, New York, on March 23, 2024. Sappia led Hobart with nine kills (.750), three digs and two aces, while DeLong chipped in 31 assists, four aces and two blocks.
ABOUT THE RAIDERS:
  • The Raiders are 7-4 this season after sweeping Buffalo State on Friday and are receiving votes in this week's AVCA national poll.
  • Mount Union will travel to Rochester on Friday to take on Nazareth before heading to Geneva on Saturday.
  • The Raiders are led by Jack McClure with 3.88 kills per set. He is followed by Jacob Nussdorfer with 2.45 kills per set.
  • Will Heeney runs Mount Union's offense, averaging 9.0 assists per set.
  • Peyton Koszelak averages a team-leading 3.21 digs per set this season while McClure chips in 1.75 per set.
ABOUT THE HIGHLANDERS:
  • Houghton is 0-5 on the year after falling in matches against Geneva and Roberts Wesleyan last Thursday.
  • Elijah Sproull averages a team-leading 1.88 kills per set for the Highlanders and is followed by Devin Cline with 1.44 kills per set.
  • Jerry Buno leads Houghton from the setter position, averaging 2.75 assists per set.
  • Defensively, the Highlanders are led by Xavier Ramos with 2.13 digs per set. Sproull chips in 1.75 digs per set.
