4 Herons named to Academic All-District team

Four members of the William Smith basketball team were named to the 2024-2025 Academic All-District® NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Team selected by the College Sports Communicators. Senior Molly Walsh, junior McKenzie Mandyck, and sophomores Miranda Martin and Amelia McCulley were this year's recipients.
 
CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must have completed at least one full calendar year at their current institution, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and participate in at least 90% of their team's competitions or start in 66% of their team's competitions.

A women's studies major, Walsh earned a spot on the Academic All-District® team for the second straight season after earning her third consecutive Liberty League All-Academic recognition.

On the basketball court, Walsh started all 26 games for the Herons. She captained a young William Smith squad and ranked third in the Liberty League in minutes played per game (32.4). Walsh also ranked 21st in the conference in assists per game (1.8). She averaged 4.7 ppg and 2.2 rpg in her senior season and dished out 44 assists. Walsh finished her career ranked 11th on William Smith's career minutes average list (27.1), 12th in career minutes (2,631) and 16th in 3-point field goals made (82).  

A sociology major, Mandyck earned a spot on the Academic All-District® team for the first time in her career after her second-straight Liberty League All-Academic recognition.

On the court, Mandyck played in 23 games this season for William Smith. She averaged 2.3 ppg, 1.3 rpg and dished out 19 assists. Mandyck dropped a season-high eight points, shooting 50% from the floor at St. Lawrence and grabbed a season-high five rebounds against Skidmore. Over three seasons, Mandyck has scored 132 points, grabbed 87 rebounds and dished out 60 assists. She will look to play a big role for the Herons in her senior season.

An economics major, Martin earned a spot on the Academic All-District® team for the first time in her career. Earlier this season, she was named to the Liberty League All-Academic team for the first time as well.

On the court, Martin played in 26 games for the Herons this season, starting two. She averaged 6.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg and dished out 14 assists. Martin dropped a career-high 29 points against Bard, shooting 12-of-20 from the floor in the win. She tallied a season-high six rebounds against Union and Bard and recorded a season-high three steals against Ithaca. Over two seasons, Martin has dropped 299 points, grabbed 143 rebounds and dished out 24 steals.

A management and entrepreneurship major, McCulley earned a spot on the Academic All-District® team for the first time in her career after also being named to the Liberty League All-Academic team for the first time as well.

On the court, McCulley started all 23 games she played this season for William Smith. She led the Liberty League in blocked shots per game (1.8), ranked eighth in 3-point field goals per game (1.4), 11th in scoring (11.0) and 20th in steals (1.3). She tallied a team-high 41 blocks in her sophomore season, moving to fifth place on William Smith's career blocks list (68). She also is second on the career blocked shots average list (1.4). McCulley dropped double-digit points in 13 games, including a career-high 24 points against SUNY Geneseo. She grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds against Union and recorded a career-high five blocks at Vassar. Through two seasons, McCulley has scored 432 points, grabbed 187 rebounds and added 68 blocks and steals.
