Hobart hosts RIT in crucial conference matchup Wednesday

The Hobart tennis team will welcome RIT to Geneva Wednesday, April 16, for a midweek Liberty League matchup. First serve between the Statesmen and the Tigers is set for 4 p.m. in Bristol Field House.

Hobart enters the match with an 8-8 overall record and is 3-2 in the conference after dropping a challenging matchup with No. 8 RPI over the weekend. RIT is 6-7 on the season, including a 3-2 record in the Liberty League. The Tigers are coming off a 4-3 conference win over Vassar on Sunday.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN:

  • Senior Hyat Oyer leads the team in singles play with a 9-7 record in dual matches and is 5-5 in the No. 1 spot.
  • Senior Nick Grosso follows close behind with an 8-6 record in dual matches and a 7-6 record at No. 3. 
  • The pairing of Oyer and senior Rahul Vallabhajosula lead the team in doubles play with a 9-4 record in dual matches. They are 4-3 from the No. 2 spot.
  • Grosso and junior Nick Fischer are 8-8 overall in doubles play and are 4-6 from the No. 1 spot. 

ABOUT THE TIGERS:

  • RIT is led by Yu Tanimoto who is 7-5 in dual matches and is 4-1 in the Liberty League from the No. 1 spot.
  • Alexander Sinclair follows close behind with a 6-6 record in dual matches and is 3-6 from the No. 5 position.
  • The Tigers are highlighted by the doubles duo of Tanimoto and Sinclair who are 5-4 in dual matches including a 4-2 record in the No. 3 spot. 

ABOUT THE SERIES:

  • This will be the 35th matchup between the Statesmen and the Tigers. Hobart leads the series 28-6, including a 10-3 advantage in Geneva.
  • Hobart has won 15 in a row against RIT, including a 7-2 victory in Rochester last season on April 17, 2024. Fischer secured wins at the No. 1 spot in both doubles and singles play to lead Hobart.
