Callum Letters, a rising junior on the Hobart football team, is spending a second consecutive summer in London interning with Formula One thanks to a Charles H. Salisbury Summer International Internship Stipend. He was one of five HWS students selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants to receive the $15,000 award to support lodging and expenses during his international internship.
Â
Created in 2007 by Honorary Trustee and former Chair of the Board Charles H. Salisbury Jr. '63, P'94, L.H.D. '08, the Salisbury Stipend is considered a "mini-Fulbright" and the most ambitious internship program in HWS' history.
Â
"The Salisbury Stipend continues to be one of the most transformative opportunities we offer students at Hobart and William Smith," says Executive Director of the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education Brandi Ferrara. "With the generous support provided by the late Mr. Salisbury, our students gain access to international internships that align directly with their academic interests and long-term career goals. These immersive, real-world experiences not only broaden their global perspective but also give them a competitive edge as they prepare for life after college."
Â
An economics major, Letters returns to Formula One in London, where he worked for two months last summer managing and developing new business partnerships. This summer, Letters is working in commercial finance, building out new profit and loss reports for each department within the commercial function, including departments like Media Rights & F1TV, Race Promotion, and Sponsorship.
Â
Letters says he intends to learn as much as he can at his dream company. Following graduation, Letters' goal is to move to London to work full-time at Formula One. "I have watched Formula One since 2012, and I'm a massive fan of the sport. For this reason, I am incredibly passionate about my work there, and I'm very excited about being a part of the future direction of the sport."
Â
On the gridiron, Letters came to Hobart as a quarterback but has moved into a receiver role to bolster the team's depth. He was a member of last season's Liberty League Championship squad that returned to the NCAA playoffs for the first time in eight years.
Â
In addition to football, Letters is a member of the HWS Investing Club and the HWS Finance Society. His efforts in the classroom have earned him Dean's List, Orange Key and Liberty League All-Academic honors.
Â
Letters spent the spring semester in Budapest, Hungary, for a study abroad program in finance.
Â
Hobart football's 131st varsity season is scheduled to kick off Friday, Sept. 5 at Alfred.
