GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith graduate student Rebecca Mantione was recognized as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Offensive Performer of the Week for Division III today. It's her first career national recognition after earning her first career Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week award yesterday.

Mantione earned national recognition after a dominant weekend at the William Smith Classic that saw her record nine points on four goals, including one game-winning goal, and an assist. In a come-from-behind double overtime win against Gettysburg, Mantione tallied her second career hat trick. She scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime before scoring the game-winning goal with under three minutes left in overtime to secure the victory.

The following day, Mantione tallied the Herons lone goal in regulation to send the game to overtime for the second straight day. William Smith went on to defeat Lebanon Valley 2-0 in a shootout to secure its second win of the weekend. Her goal against the Flying Dutchmen was her team-leading fifth of the season and third straight game with a goal.

The forward from Baldwinsville, New York, leads the team with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Mantione sits at 70 career points on 25 goals, including six game-winners, and 20 assists. She currently leads the Liberty League in shots per game (5.00) and goals per game (.833) and is second in points per game (2.00).

Mantione and William Smith (4-2) will be back in action this evening as they travel to Rochester, New York, to take on Nazareth (3-1) in a nonconference contest. Action between the Herons and the Golden Flyers is set for 6 p.m.at NLPA Field.
