Hobart #1 ahead of 3-game homestand

The Hobart hockey team remained the unanimous No. 1 team in the country in the USCHO.com poll, which was released this afternoon. This is the 41st consecutive poll that the Statesmen have been ranked No. 1.
 
This is the seventh straight poll and the 10th time in 11 polls this season, the Statesmen have been the unanimous No. 1 pick. During Hobart's stay at No. 1, they have been the unanimous No. 1 team 24 times.
 
The Statesmen improved to 18-0-0 on the season with an 11-0-0 mark in SUNYAC play with wins over Plattsburgh and Skidmore over the weekend. The Statesmen beat the Cardinals 7-0 behind two goals each from Easton Ryan and Arvega Hovsepyan. Senior Tanner Daniels had three points on a goal and two assists. Senior Damon Beaver made 22 saves as he earned the shutout. On Saturday, Hobart beat Skidmore 1-0 on a goal from first-year Adam Ondris with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. Senior Mavrick Goyer made 20 saves as he earned the shutout.
 
Statistically, Hobart is first in the nation in winning percentage (1.000), scoring margin (+4.33) and scoring defense (1.11). The Statesmen are second in scoring offense (5.44) and power-play percentage (3.43) and 10th in penalty-killing percentage.
 
Individually, Beaver is first in the nation in GAA (0.92), winning percentage (1.000) and shutouts (4) and second in save percentage (.949). Hovsepyan is fifth in the nation in assists per game (1.00) and 11th in points per game. Senior Kahlil Fontana is fifth in goals per game (0.78) and sixth in power-play goals (5).
 
The Statesmen will be back in action Friday, Jan. 30, when they begin a three-game homestand against Canton (7-9-1, 3-6-1). The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
