Hobart first-year linebacker
Tyler Cumming was named the Liberty League Football Rookie of the Week by the conference office today. He led the Statesmen defense against Ithaca on Saturday. Additionally, junior kicker
Collin Goff earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll for his efforts against the Bombers.

Cumming produced a game-high nine tackles, including two for loss and a sack, against Ithaca. The Bombers came into the game averaging 7.0 yards per carry, 537.3 yards of total offense per game and 47.5 points per game. The Statesmen defense held them to a season-low 3.2 yards per carry, a season-low 320 yards of total offense and just 27 points. Cumming and the rest of the defense limited Ithaca to just a single touchdown after halftime.

At the midway point in the season, Cumming is second on the team with 33 tackles. He has three tackles for loss and is third on the team with two sacks.

Goff handled kickoffs for Hobart against the Bombers, averaging 63.0 yards per kick. Of his five kicks on Saturday, three went for touchbacks, one was fair caught and the fifth was returned a mere 6 yards. Goff and the Statesmen lead the Liberty League, netting 42.1 yards per kickoff.

Hobart (2-3, 0-2) trailed Ithaca 20-3 at halftime, but cut the Bombers' lead to just seven twice in the second half. The Statesmen were unable to pull even before time ran out. Ithaca prevailed 27-20.

The second half of the Statesmen's schedule begins at home against Union (3-2, 2-0). The Garnet Chargers will visit Boswell Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 10.
