Statesmen set to compete at Baldwin Wallace Tournament this weekend

The Hobart volleyball team will continue its six-match road trip when it travels to Berea, Ohio, this weekend to compete in the 2026 Baldwin Wallace Tournament.

The Statesmen are receiving votes in this week's AVCA national poll. Hobart remain  No. 17 in the FrogJump Volleyball national rankings.

THE SCHEDULE:
Saturday, Feb. 14
(RV) Hobart vs. No. 10 Messiah– 3 p.m.
(RV) Hobart vs. No. 9 Baldwin Wallace – 7 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 15
(RV) Hobart vs. (RV) Benedictine – 11 a.m.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN:                 

  • Hobart enters the weekend with a 6-6 record after sweeping Drew and falling in three sets to No.1 Springfield at the Morgan Classic over the weekend. Junior Aiden Kemora and sophomore Kian Kischke were named to the All-Tournament team.
  • Junior Daniel Sappia leads Hobart in kills per set (2.35) and averages 2.75 points per set. Kemora leads Hobart in points per set with 2.80 while junior Noah DeLong follows close behind, averaging 2.64 points per set.
  • Junior Zack Farren leads the Statesmen from the setter position, averaging 4.86 assists per set. First-year Charlie Dugan follows close behind, averaging 4.74 assists per set.
  • On the defensive end, Hobart is led by junior libero Gavin Meador who averages 1.92 digs per set, while Kischke averages a team-leading 0.89 blocks per set.

ABOUT THE FALCONS:

  • Messiah enters the weekend with a 7-2 overall record after falling in three-sets to No. 4 Juniata on Friday.
  • The Falcons are ranked No. 10 in this week's AVCA and No. 9 in the FrogJump Volleyball national polls.
  • Offensively, Alex Kagoro leads the Falcons with 3.59 kills per set and 4.24 points per set. Tyler McConnell follows, averaging 3.15 kills per set and 3.60 points per set.
  • Brandon Sharp averages a team-leading 9.37 assists per set.
  • Defensively, Aidan Dunwoody leads the team averaging 2.33 digs per set, while Jake Eby leads in blocking with 35 blocks on the season.
  • This will be the first meeting between Hobart and Messiah in program history.

ABOUT THE YELLOW JACKETS:

  • Baldwin Wallace enters the weekend with a 9-1 overall record after losing a five-set thriller against No. 4 Juniata last weekend.
  • The Yellow Jackets jumped one spot to No. 9 in this week's AVCA national poll, and landed at  No. 12 in this week's FrogJump Volleyball poll.
  • Owen Huynh averages a team-leading 4.26 kills per set and 4.74 points per set.
  • Setter Ethan Gundrum contributes a team-leading 11.65 assists per set.
  • On the defensive end, Tyler Schunk averages 1.71 digs per set, while Gundrum adds 23 blocks on the season. Josh Steinitz follows with 22 blocks.
  • This will be the second meeting between the Statesmen and Yellow Jackets after Hobart defeated Baldwin Wallace 3-1 on Feb. 9, 2024, in Geneva.

ABOUT THE EAGLES:

  • Benedictine enters the weekend with a 3-4 record and is coming off a five-set loss to Augustana on Tuesday.
  • The Eagles are receiving votes in this week's AVCA national poll.
  • Chris Radomski averages a team-leading 2.88 kills per set and 3.29 points per set. Tucker Lambert adds 2.74 points per set for the Eagles.
  • Setter Spencer VanEngen leads the team with 7.88 assists per set.
  • Defensively, the Eagles are led by Jordan Cardenas with 2.44 digs per set and Jacob Thomas with 0.89 blocks per set.
  • This will be the first meeting between Hobart and Benedictine in program history.
