#1 Hobart hosts #6 Oswego on Friday night

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 6, when it welcomes sixth-ranked Oswego to The Cooler for a SUNYAC contest. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Cooler.
 
Tickets for regular season contests at The Cooler cost $5 and will go on sale 60 minutes before opening faceoff. Children 12 and under are free, as are HWS students, faculty and staff who present a valid HWS OneCard.
 
Friday's game will be Hobart's spirit game sponsored by HWS Student Engagement. The first 30 students to present their OneCard will receive a free t-shirt.
 
In addition, the Macarollin' food truck will also be at The Cooler, serving from 4:30-8 p.m. HWS students, faculty and staff with a valid OneCard.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN (20-0-0, 13-0-0)
  • Hobart sits in first place in the SUNYAC standings with 26 points, following last weekend's wins over Canton (5-1) and Potsdam (7-0).
  • The Statesmen enter the week first in the nation in scoring offense (5.50), scoring defense (1.05), scoring margin (+4.45) and power-play percentage (.329). 
  • Individually, Hobart is led by its top line of sophomore Arvega Hovsepyan (10-22-32), senior Kahlil Fontana (15-14-29) and senior Tanner Daniels (12-14-26).
  • Hovsepyan is third in the nation in assists per game (1.10) and fifth in points per game (0.75). Fontana is eighth in the nation in goals per game (0.75) and ninth in points per game (1.45). Daniels is 27th in points per game (1.30).
  • Hobart's defense, which has allowed just 21 goals in 20 games, is anchored by the dynamic duo of senior goalies Damon Beaver and Mavrick Goyer.  Beaver has the edge in minutes played and is 13-0-0 with a 0.93 GAA and a 951 save percentage. He is first in the nation in winning percentage, GAA, save percentage and shutouts (4). Goyer is 6-0-0 with a 1.41 GA, a .917 save percentage and three shutouts.
 
ABOUT THE LAKERS (14-3-2, 11-2-0)
  • Oswego sits in second place in the SUNYAC standings with 22 points, four behind the Statesmen. The Lakers are looking to bounce back from a 4-1 loss to Canton last Saturday.
  • Oswego is third in the nation in penalty-killing percentage (.929) and eighth in power-play percentage (.277). The Lakers are 13th in the nation in scoring offense (3.89), 14th in scoring margin (+1.63) and 20th in scoring defense (2.26).
  • Oswego's offense is led by defenseman Travis Baker. He has 20 points on five goals and 15 assists. Captain Matt McQuade is right behind him with 19 points on seven goals and 12 assists. Connor Gatto has a team-high 10 goals.
  • Baker is fourth in the nation with two short-handed goals.
  • Oswego has used three goalies this season. Michael Manzi has the edge in minutes played. He is 7-1-0 with a 2.36 GAA and a .911 save percentage. Brandon Milberg has the best numbers at 4-0-0 with a 1.20 GAA and .943 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday's game will be the 52nd meeting between Hobart and Oswego.
  • The Lakers lead the series 36-12-3, including a 14-7-2 advantage in Geneva.
  • Hobart has won the last two matchups and is 7-3-0 in the last 10 meetings.
  • On Dec. 5, Hobart knocked off Oswego 5-2 in Oswego. Daniels scored twice in the victory. Beaver played all 60 minutes in goal and made 17 saves.
