The Hobart tennis team is set to host three matches this week. The Statesmen open the week with a crucial conference matchup with Ithaca on Thursday, March 26, at 4 p.m. Hobart will then take on Bard on Saturday at 10 a.m. and No. 22 NYU on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Bristol Field House.
ABOUT THE STATESMEN:
- Hobart is 6-2 on the season and is coming off a 5-2 conference opening loss to No. 35 Skidmore on Saturday.
- Senior Aidan Staunton was named to the Liberty League weekly honor roll after three strong performances last week.
- First-year Michael Georgelis leads the Statesmen in singles play with a 6-2 record in dual matches, playing primarily in the No. 4 spot. First-year Tejus Ranadive and Staunton add 5-1 records in singles play with Ranadive playing at No. 6 and Staunton at No. 3.
- Senior Nick Fischer also plays a crucial role in Hobart's lineup and is 4-2 in the No. 1 spot this spring.
- In doubles play, junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid lead the Statesmen with a 7-1 record at No. 2.
- Fischer and Staunton add a 6-2 record in the No. 1 spot.
ABOUT THE BOMBERS
- Ithaca brings a 5-3 overall record to Geneva and is coming off a 4-3 loss to then No. 26 NYU. The Bombers' matchup with the Statesmen will be their conference opener.
- Carlos Hernandez leads Ithaca with a 6-2 record in singles play, primarily playing in the No. 5 spot. Luis Crespo is 5-2 in the No. 4 spot, while Ivan Kisic is 3-5 in the No. 1 position.
- In doubles play, Kisic and Samuel Lopez-Cardenas are 5-2 at No. 3, while Crespo and Ean Lantzy are 5-2 at No. 2.
- This will be the 37th meeting between Hobart and Ithaca. The Statesmen hold a 24-12 edge in the series, including a 13-6 advantage in Geneva.
- Last season, Hobart beat Ithaca 4-3 on April 27, 2025. Sophomore Marcos Olmos clinched the match with a 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-3 win over Lantzy in the No. 6 spot.
ABOUT THE RAPTORS:
- Bard brings a 4-3 overall record to Geneva and is coming off a 5-2 win over SUNY Delhi on March 13. The Raptors are 0-2 in conference play after falling to Union and RPI in the fall.
- In singles play, Nick Oh leads the team with a 5-2 dual match record, including a 4-0 record in the No. 1 spot. Peter Trimble is also 5-2 on the season, primarily playing at No. 5.
- Trimble and Thanasis Kostikas are 3-0 in the No. 3 doubles position. Oh and Ivan Borshchev add a 2-2 record in the No. 1 spot.
- This will be the 12th meeting between Hobart and Bard. The Statesmen have won all 11 previous meetings, including last year's 5-0 win on April 12, 2025.
ABOUT THE VIOLETS:
- NYU is 5-1 on the season and will be taking on Rochester on Saturday before traveling to Geneva.
- Niklas von Hellens leads the Violets in singles play and is 4-2 in the No. 1 spot. Bryan Hui adds a 4-2 record in the No. 2 spot for NYU.
- Hui and von Hellens are 5-1 in the No. 1 doubles position. Shido Ito and Jeh-Lei Fan add a 3-2 record in the No. 2 doubles spot.
- This will be the 16th meeting between Hobart and NYU. The Violets hold a 10-5 edge in the series with both sides winning four times in Geneva.
- Last season, NYU defeated the Statemen 6-1 on March 9, 2026, in NYC. Olmos secured the lone point for Hobart in the No. 6 spot.
