#8 Heron lacrosse begins road trip at RIT

The eighth-ranked William Smith lacrosse team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 1, when it begins a five-game road trip at RIT. The opening draw in the key Liberty League contest is set for 4 p.m.
 
The Herons improved to 8-1 and 4-0 in the Liberty League with a 19-6 win over Vassar on Saturday. Senior Taryn Luzi led William Smith's offense with seven points. First-year Cat Colvin added three goals and one assist, while Senior Delaney Cassidy notched two goals and two assists.
 
The Tigers are 8-2 with a 2-2 record in league play. RIT is looking to bounce back from a 15-10 loss to Clarkson on Saturday. The Golden Knights jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith is led offensively by first-year Cat Colvin (16-9) and junior Mia Falco (11-14), who both have 25 points.
  • Colvin has recorded at least one point in her first nine games as a Heron.
  • Senior Taryn Luzi leads the team with 20 goals.
  • Junior Grace Rund has dominated the draw circle, leading the Herons with 62 draw controls. She is 16th in the nation in draw controls per game (6.89).
  • Junior Janey Sypeck leads William Smith's defense with 24 caused turnovers and 21 ground balls. Senior Lily Kuhn is right behind her with 19 ground balls and senior Caitie Baker has 14 caused turnovers.
  • Graduate student Casey Fiore is 8-1 in goal with a 6.66 GAA and a .478 save percentage.
  • The Herons enter the week first in the nation in clearing percentage (.923), ninth in draw control percentage (.663) and 10th in the nation in turnovers per game (12.56).
 
ABOUT THE TIGERS
  • Zoe Heffernan paces RIT's offense with 28 goals and six assists, for 34 points.
  • Grace Validzic (20-8) and Jenna Bovenzi (7-17) are right behind her with 28 and 24 points, respectively. Bovenzi is the top playmaker with 17 assists.
  • Milena Stephen has a team-high 66 draw controls.
  • Jocelyn Lee has a team-high 19 caused turnovers, and Ellie Ruddy has 21 ground balls.
  • Ruddy has played the majority of minutes in goal. She is 7-2 with a 7.38 GAA and a .479 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Wednesday's game will be the 16th meeting between William Smith and RIT.
  • The Herons lead the all-time series 14-1, including a 5-1 mark in Rochester.
  • William Smith has won 14 straight games against the Tigers, including last year's 12-10 win at Tiger Stadium.
