Statesmen host nonconference doubleheader Saturday

The Hobart tennis team is set to host a nonconference doubleheader against Farmingdale State and Drew in Bristol Field House on Saturday, March 7. The Statesmen and Rams will take the court at 10 a.m. Hobart will then take on the Rangers at 5 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE STATESMEN:
  • Hobart is 1-0 to open its spring season after sweeping SUNY Oneonta 7-0 in its season opener Saturday. Seniors Nick Fischer and Aidan Staunton as well as junior Achilleas Kousaridis were named to the Liberty League weekly honor roll after their impressive performances against the Red Dragons.
  • Fischer leads the Statesmen in singles play with a 5-1 record after defeating Oneonta's Chris Chippari 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 position.
  • Kousaridis went 3-2 in singles play in the fall, and started the spring season 1-0 after defeating William Schmid 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot.
  • Staunton and Fischer secured their first win as doubles partners this season in the No. 1 spot, defeating Chippari and Schmid, 6-1.
  • Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid secured their first win as doubles partners as well, defeating Jaden Ritterman and Peter Pitaleff 6-2 in the No. 2 position.
ABOUT THE RAMS:
  • Farmingdale St. enters the weekend with a 1-1 overall record and will open up its spring season against Hobart on Saturday.
  • Devan Melandro leads the Rams in singles play with a record of 1-1 in the No. 1 spot.
  • Zakaria Ahmed is 1-1 on the season in the No. 2 spot.
  • Ahmed and Melandro lead Farmingdale St. in doubles play with a 1-1 record in the No. 1 spot.
  • Luke Plana and Emil Sabovic are 1-0 in the No. 2 doubles position.
  • This will be the first matchup in program history between Farmingdale St. and Hobart.
ABOUT THE RANGERS:
  • Drew enters the weekend with a 3-2 overall record after defeating Dickinson 4-3 on Feb. 14.
  • Jesse Faro leads the Rangers in singles play with an overall record of 3-2 in the No. 1 spot.
  • Daniel Arcari is 3-2 in singles in the No. 2 position.
  • Acari and Faro lead the Rangers in doubles play with a 4-1 record in the No. 1 spot.
  • This will be the second matchup in program history between Hobart and Drew. In the first matchup, Drew defeated Hobart 6-1 on March 16, 2001.
