Three members of the Hobart tennis team were recognized for their play last week, the conference office announced this afternoon. Senior Nick Fischer was named the Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week, while junior Achilleas Kousaridis and first-year Everett Reid earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
The Statesmen are coming off a 1-1 conference week that saw them fall to Union 4-3 before bouncing back with a 5-2 win over St. Lawrence on Sunday. With the results, Hobart is 8-6 on the season with a 2-3 mark in Liberty League play.
Fischer earned his third Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week award after a standout week that saw him earn back-to-back wins in the No. 1 singles position. He defeated Union's Solen Bellemare 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, before rallying to beat St. Lawrence's Josh David 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. With the wins, Fischer is now 11-5 in singles play this season, including a 7-4 record in dual matches in the No. 1 spot. He is 3-1 in conference play.
Kousaridis and Reid earned a spot on the weekly honor roll after winning twice over the weekend, extending their win streak to five straight. The duo defeated Union's Vivaan Gupta and Daniel Saxe 6-2, before adding a 6-4 win over St. Lawrence's Aidan Baracao and Willem Naughton. With the wins, Kousaridis and Reid improved to a team-leading 12-2 in the No. 2 spot this season.
Hobart will be back in action this weekend as it welcomes RPI (2-10, 2-2) and Vassar (11-5, 4-0) to Geneva for two crucial conference matchups. The Statesmen will take on the Engineers on Saturday at 10 a.m. and will conclude the week's action with a matchup against the Brewers on Sunday at 10 a.m.
