CORTLAND, N.Y.—The William Smith golf team competed in the 36-hole Martin/Wallace Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland over the weekend. Senior
Caroline Gannon led the Herons with a 12-place finish at the par 72 Cortland Country Club.
Gannon was in 13th place after Saturday's opening round, carding an 87 which is one shot off her season's best round. She repeated her first round score on Sunday and moved up one spot in the final standings with an aggregate score of 174. Gannon also shot a 174 in the 2025 Martin/Wallace, finishing 16th.
First-year
Maggie McCarthy was the second Heron in the clubhouse. Her round of 96 on Saturday was her best of the season. McCarthy was 29th in the final standings.
The tournament included 10 teams and 49 golfers. Ithaca's Annelise Stencel was the individual medalist (78-75-153) besting Union's Iyene Essien (80-74-154) by one shot. The Bombers took the team title by 38 strokes over the host Red Dragons and the Garnet Chargers. William Smith was 10th.
The Herons will be back in action Monday, April 27 when they compete in the Nazareth Spring Invitational at Brook-Lea Country Club.
