ROCHESTER, N.Y.—First-year
Maggie McCarthy shot her best round of the season, leading the William Smith golf team to a third-place finish in the Nazareth Spring Invitational at Brook-Lea Country Club on Monday.
McCarthy carded a 93 on the par 72 course, three strokes better than her previous season's best. Senior
Caroline Gannon was six shots back in sixth place.
Tara Valas was just outside the top 10, finishing in 11th place and
Sophia Pomposello rounded out the Heron contingent in 14th place.
Nazareth's Bethany Wineberg was the individual medalist, shooting an 83. The Golden Flyers also took the top spot in the team standings. Geneseo was second followed by William Smith.
The Nazareth Invitational was the Herons' final tuneup before competing in the Liberty League Championships May 1-2 in Rome, New York. Friday's first round at Teugega Country Club is set to tee off at noon. Saturday's second round will get underway at 8 a.m.
