For the third straight week, a William Smith crew was named the Liberty League Boat of the Week. This week, the Herons' second varsity eight won the award after finishing second in a field that included five of the top 10 teams in the country on Lake Quinsigamond over weekend.
The Herons' second varsity eight, which was powered by
Michaela Greco,
Olivia Helms,
Lily Liflander,
Alessandra Gialanella,
Paige Barnhart,
Ainsley Kimball,
Mariee Voss,
Lily Keefe and
Olivia Sainsbury collected their first Liberty League Boat of the Week Award. William Smith finished second to No. 1 Trinity twice on Sunday.
In the morning heats, the Herons crossed the line second, powering down the 2,000-meter course with a time of 7:18.9. William Smith used a strong middle 1,000 to distance itself from Hamilton and stay within striking distance of the Bantams. In the grand final, the 2V took on No. 1 Trinity, No. 4 Wellesley, No. 8 Bates, No. 10 Hamilton and the host WPI. The Herons started their sprint at the 1,300-meter mark to move in front of the Bobcats and Continentals. The Herons stopped the clock at 7:30.6, seven seconds behind the Bantams and three seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Greco, Helms, Liflander, Gianella, Barnhart, Kimball, Voss, Keefe and Sainsbury also have wins over Rochester, Ithaca and RIT this season.
William Smith will be back in action on April 18, when it heads to Saratoga Springs, New York, for the New York Collegiate Rowing Championships.
