Herons move up to #7 ahead of Ithaca clash

The William Smith lacrosse team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll ahead of a key conference showdown with Ithaca. The Herons held at No. 5 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
 
In addition, William Smith debuted at No. 8 in the NCAA Power Index rankings released today. NPI is the formula used to select at-large bids for the NCAA tournament.
 
William Smith (10-1, 6-0) extended its winning streak to five games with wins over RIT (17-7) and the University of Rochester (19-12) last week. Junior Katie Grottenthaler and senior Caitie Baker were named to the Liberty League's weekly honor roll for their efforts. Grottenthaler (7g, 1a) had eight points, eight draw controls, two caused turnovers and three ground balls on the week. Baker anchored the Herons' defense with four caused turnovers and a ground ball on the week.
 
On Wednesday, William Smith will make the 46-mile trip to Ithaca, New York, to take on the Bombers (8-3, 5-2). The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
