RIT swims past Herons 136-91

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team suffered a 136-91 defeat at RIT. The Tigers won the meet's first 10 events before competing in the final three with exhibition entries.

Despite the setback, the Herons did produce several quality performances. Sophomore Erin Houck (State College/Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa.) placed second in the 50-yard free style and the 100 butterfly. Her 50 free time (25.95) was just 0.37 seconds off the winning time and topped her season's best time by more than 1.3 seconds. Houck's time in the 100 fly (1:04.83) was also a season's best.

Senior Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Midlothian, Va.) was snakebit in both of her individual events, the 200 and 500 free. She turned in strong times in both events (2:03.8/5:30.9), but both times RIT's Caitlyn Burr bested her with school and pool records swims.

Sophomore Ellen Ellison (Our Lady of Mercy/Farmington, N.Y.) produced a season's best time with her second place finish in the 1,000 free, clocking in at 11:41.63, 16.85 second better than her previous best.

First-year diver Kaileigh Fowler (Masconomet/Boxford, Mass.) placed second on the 1-meter board with a score of 179.05, her best performance of the season.

William Smith will be back in the pool at noon on Jan. 24, when the Herons compete in the Rensselaer Invitational.
