Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith basketball team never trailed in its season-opening victory over Keuka this afternoon, quelling the Storm 81-68.
Ashlinn Barber led four Herons in double figures, posting 20 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
William Smith needed just five minutes to build a 13-2 lead. Barber led the opening surge with six points, while
Colleen Lukas added five on her way to a career-high 16 points and nine boards. A 16-7 run, capped by a three-pointer by Brittany Schrock, pulled Keuka within two, 20-18, but William Smith scored the game's next 13 points on the way to a 44-27 halftime lead.
The Herons shot 48.5 percent from the floor (44.8% for the game), including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc (9-18), in the first half, while limiting the Storm to 29.7 percent shooting (32.5%).
After the break,
Julie Hooper drained one of her game-high four three-pointers to give William Smith its largest lead of the day (50-29 with 16:48 remaining). She finished with a career-high 16 points.
The Herons maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the remainder of the contest and never let their lead dip below eight points.
Mollie Danahy added 14 points for William Smith, while
Carrie Stevens grabbed seven boards of the bench.
Jaimie Rubin chipped in a game-high six assists in her Heron debut.
For Keuka, Schrock netted a game-high 28 points on 10-of-25 shooting. Nicki Zahn and Nadia Madmoune scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.
William Smith is back in action at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18, when the Herons host Ithaca.
