Senior guards
Latasha Coney (Lyons/Lyons, N.Y.) and
Paige Myers (Massena/Massena, N.Y.) were honored prior to the start of the contest and were productive in the final regular season home game of their careers. Coney posted her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as well as five assists, while Myers scored 13 points, all in the first half, and also handed out five assists.
Clarkson got twin 14-point efforts from Katie Goldberg and Michelle Reddinger.
The Herons (13-9, 7-4) struggled offensively and defensively in the first half, but still carried a 29-28 lead into halftime. William Smith shot just 32.4 percent from the floor and allowed the Golden Knights (6-17, 1-11) to shoot 40.7 percent.
Thoughts of a comeback were quickly put to bed as the Herons started the second half on an 18-4 run. Coney, who netted all of her points in the second half, had five points and two assists during the decisive surge. Kush, who scored a career-high 20 points in last night's win over St. Lawrence, connected on a jumper with 15:49 remaining in the contest to give William Smith a 43-32 lead, an advantage that remained in double digits the rest of the day.
The Herons shot 51.5 percent from the floor after the break, while harassing the Knights into a 22.9 percent performance. William Smith also outrebounded Clarkson 29-19 in the second half to secure a slim 44-43 edge for the game.
The Herons are back in action at 6 p.m. on Feb. 17, when they visit Hamilton, while the Golden Knights will be back on the court at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20, when they host Rensselaer.
