Statesmen blank Cardinals 9-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College tennis team defeated St. John Fisher 9-0 tonight at Bristol Field House. The Statesmen improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Cardinals drop to 0-1.

First-years Bruce Grant and Alex James led Hobart with an 8-0 win over Matt Aquino and John Whelehan at first doubles. Grant also defeated Tim Adler 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while James earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory vs. Jake Van Buren at No. 3 singles.

Sophomores Matt Hursh, Kevin Bates, Walter Green, and junior Matt Chin all defeated their Cardinal opponents at second, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively.

Chin and Hursh also teamed up for an 8-4 win over Van Buren and Greg Duffy at second doubles, while sophomore Mike Kofman and Green defeated Adler and Joe Cimino 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.

Hobart will be back in action Oct. 2-4, when the Statesmen travel to Willingsboro, N.J., for the ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
