CASTILE, N.Y.—The Hobart cross country team finished ninth out of 14 teams at the Geneseo Invitational today. First-year Nick Schmidt led the Statesmen across the finish line in the 170-runner field.

The host Blue Knights won the team title behind Lee Berube's winning 8-kilometer run of 25 minutes, 12.7 seconds. Hobart finished ahead of Finger Lakes Community College, SUNY ESF, Canton, Keuka, and Medaille.

Schmidt crossed the finish line in 29:23.9, placing 104th. He was followed by senior Ross Hicks (30:25.1, 114th) and first-year Greg Mathieu (30:27.9, 115th).

Following a week off, Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Cross Country Only Conference Championship at Seneca Lake State Park.
