KEUKA PARK, N.Y.—
William Smith junior forward Kristen Kush scored a game-high 20 points, but Keuka scored a 72-67 victory over the Herons in non-conference women's basketball action tonight.

William Smith struggled to find its range, connecting on just 32.9 percent from the floor, including 6-of-28 from behind the arc. The Storm shot 41.5 percent from the floor, including 6-of-13 from long range. Keuka had the edge in rebounds (46-40), but the Herons were plus-nine in turnover margin, forcing 16 of the Storm's 20 turnovers via steals.

Kush was 9-of-20 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the line. She also grabbed nine rebounds and posted three steals. Sophomore guard Sydni Salvatore joined Kush in double figures with 14 points. First-year guard Jacqueline Murphy pulled down a team-high 10 boards. First-year guard Erin O'Brien finished with a game-high four steals, the same number as the entire Keuka squad.

The Storm (8-1) placed four players in double digits, led by Mariah Mouzon's 17-point, 13-rebound double-double. Danielle Gravel added 13 points, while Jessica Fink and Jessica Bandrowski chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

William Smith (3-4) trailed by as many as 15 in the second half, but the Herons refused to go down without a fight. Between the 7:51 and 5:21 marks, William Smith rattled off 11 unanswered points to close the gap to just four. Salvatore and Kush started the surge with a pair of free throws each. Salvatore and senior guard Mollie Danahy followed with layups and O'Brien capped the run with a three.

Bandrowski ended Keuka's scoring drought, but Kush countered with a jumper to make it a four-points game again, 58-54. The Storm got some breathing room with the next four points of the game, including a traditional three-point play by Fink.

William Smith trimmed Keuka's advantage to four, twice more—the final time with 39 seconds left on a three by Salvatore—but got no closer. The Storm was 5-of-6 from the line in the final 71 seconds.

In the first half, Keuka broke an 8-8 tie with a 16-7 run to build a nine point lead. The Storm took a 39-30 lead into halftime. Kush led all scorers at the break with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, December 11, when the Herons head to Rochester to battle the Yellowjackets. Tipoff at the Palestra is scheduled for 2 p.m.
