GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith basketball team suffered a 93-60 season opening loss to Ithaca in Bristol Gym tonight. The Bombers seized the momentum from the opening tip, breaking the game open with a 23-4 run.
Kathryn Campbell led all scorers with 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting for Ithaca (1-0). She also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and made a game-high three steals. Jenn Escobido added 17 points, while Jessica Farley chipped in 11. Devin Shea enjoyed a strong all-around performance in 15 minute of work, collecting eight points, a game-high seven assists, and six rebounds.

Jacqueline Murphy produced her second career double-double on 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. She also shared team-high honors (with junior

Campbell fueled the decisive run, registering consecutive nine points for the Bombers, turning a 6-point lead into a 14-point advantage. After trailing by as many as 25, William Smith was able to whittle its deficit down to 48-30 at halftime.

Kristen Kush, were unable to mount a comeback in the second half.
Ithaca shot 52.1 percent from the floor, including 6-of-14 from 3-point range, and 72.2 percent from the free throw line. The Bombers held William Smith to just 33.3 percent shooting. Ithaca also enjoyed a 48-35 advantage on the glass.
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 19, when the Herons host Keuka. Originally scheduled to start at in the afternoon, game time has been pushed back to 7 p.m. Ithaca will return to the floor at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, when the Bombers visit Medaille.
