Statesmen blank Golden Flyers

GENEVA, N.Y.—
The Hobart tennis team swept Nazareth 9-0 in a match played at Bristol Field House tonight. The Statesmen improve to 4-4 this season, while the Golden Flyers are now 3-5 overall.

Sophomore Bruce Grant and sophomore Alex James teamed up to defeat the Nazareth's Ryan McCormick and Bret Beaver at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. The duo of junior Matt Hursh and senior Matt Chin secured an 8-3 victory at No. 2, and sophomore Sam DeLuccia and junior Kevin Bates  swept their Golden Flyer opponents at No. 3.

Grant faced the day's toughest competition at the top singles spot, edging McCormick 6-3, 2-6, 11-9. Hursh picked up his second win of the day 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. DeLuccia cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, James defeated the Nazareth's Adam Landry 6-3, 6-2, and Bates registered a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5. Junior Walter Green rounded out the singles lineup with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

Hobart will be back in action Saturday, March 26, when the Statesmen travel to take on The College of New Jersey at 11 a.m.
