CLINTON, N.Y.—
The nationally-ranked No. 2 Hamilton College women's lacrosse team out-scored William Smith 9-3 in the second half to secure a 15-6 win over the Herons in a Liberty League game played this afternoon on Steuben Field. The Continentals improve to 12-1 and 5-0 in the league, and William Smith is now 5-8 and 3-3 in conference play.

Sarah Bray scored a game-high five goals and earned an assist. She also picked up a game-high six ground balls, won a game-high four draw controls, and caused two turnovers. Anne Graveley contributed three goals and an assist. Libby Schultz and Rachel Friedman chipped in two goals apiece. Ashley Allen and Mariah Monks each recorded a goal and an assist. Dewi Caswell made five saves to earn the win.

Junior Rosie Scheibel led William Smith registering a goal and an assist. Five other Herons each scored one goal. Junior Callie Frelinghuysen scooped up a team-high four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Sophomore Katie Dexter won three draws and caused two turnovers, and junior Lucy Johnson picked up four ground balls. Sophomore Jesse Wilson stopped seven shots in all 60 minutes in goal.

The Herons got on the scoreboard first four minutes, 50 seconds into the game. Frelinghuysen broke through the Continental defense and fired a shot past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. It was her 10th tally this season. Hamilton answered just 21 seconds later, when Schultz tied up the game at one. At 5:59, Scheibel logged her 27th tally of the year to give the lead back to the Herons. Twenty-four seconds later, Bray found the back of the net to tie it all up for the second time. At 12:40, an unassisted tally by junior Katherine Vesce immediately after she caused a turnover, gave William Smith a 3-2 advantage.

With 6:09 left in the opening half, Bray carried the ball all the way down the field and scored to tie the game at three. Back-to-back goals by Graveley put the Continentals up 5-3. It was Hamilton's first lead of the game, and they wouldn't let it go. With one second left before the break, Bray scored her third goal of the afternoon to make it 6-3 at halftime.

Ashley Allen started off the second half with a free position goal at 7:28. Just 26 seconds later, sophomore Emily Leahy took a pass from Scheibel and scored her seventh goal of the year, which cut William Smith's deficit to three, but that is as close as the Herons would get. Hamilton scored three unanswered goals to go up 10-4. Graveley started off the spurt with an unassisted tally, Schultz registered her second goal of the day, and Rachel Friedman capped the run on a free position.

At 15:23 in the second, junior Kathryn Gillan was able to capitalize on a free position to cut the Continental lead to five, but Hamilton answered with a 5-0 run. Goals by Mariah Monks, Amy Marchesi, and Friedman, as well as two more from Bray put the Continentals up 15-5. Senior Cassie Findlay was able to set up sophomore Marissa Potter with 44 seconds remaining for the final. It was Potter's 24th goal of the season.

Hamilton enjoyed a 29-16 edge in shots, and a 30-19 advantage in ground balls. William Smith won 12 draw controls, while the Continentals came up with 10. Hamilton was successful on 16 of 22 clear attempts, while the Herons were successful nine out of 15 times.

William Smith will be back in action on Friday, April 29 when the Herons host Rensselaer at 4 p.m.
