William Smith keeps pace in Liberty League race with 65-31 win at Bard

Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team moved into a three-way tie for second place in the Liberty League with a 65-31 win at Bard College tonight. The winner of tomorrow's William Smith at Vassar game will be assured of a spot in the league's four-team tournament.

Sophomore Sasha Borenstein sank a trio of 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 13 points to lead the Herons (13-11, 9-6). Classmate Liz Douglass added 11 points, while first-year Ali Plizka chipped in a season-high 10 points. Erin O'Brien produced five points, six assists, and a game-high three steals. Sophomore Jacqueline Murphy pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in just 10 minutes of work, helped William Smith to a 43-20 advantage on the glass.

Victoria Fleisher scored 11 points to pace the Raptors (1-23, 0-15). Joanna Regan contributed six points and six assists.

William Smith jumped out to a 14-2 lead on its way to a 40-14 halftime lead. The Herons maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half. William Smith shot 46.3 percent from the floor for the game, including 7-of-15 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Bard was limited to just 30.6 percent shooting.

The Herons are tied for second in the conference with Rensselaer and Vassar. Skidmore and Union are one game back going into tomorrow's regular season finale. William Smith can finish as high as second or miss the playoffs entirely based on their result against the Brewers as well as the results of Clarkson at Rensselaer and Union at Skidmore.
