GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith lacrosse team was edged 9-7 in overtime by nationally-ranked No. 18 Hamilton in a non-league game played today on Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation. Sophomore goalie
Maggie McNair stopped 21 shots in all 66 minutes in goal for the Herons. McNair's new career-high in saves ties her with three other Herons for 10th on the William Smith list for saves in a game.
The Herons are now 4-5 overall, and the Continentals improve to 5-6. Hamilton held a 3-2 lead at halftime, but William Smith battled back to tie the game at 6-6 at the end of regulation. The Continentals held off the Herons, and secured the win with three overtime goals, as William Smith was only able to find the back of the net once in the extra period.

Rosie Scheibel recorded a game-high four points on three goals and an assist. Junior

Kathryn Gillan chipped in two assists. First-year
Rachel Hughes shared a game-high with six ground balls and caused four turnovers. Senior
Lucy Johnson scored once and also scooped up six ground balls.
Rachel Friedman led Hamilton with three goals and won a game-high five draws. Libby Schultz notched two goals and an assist. Ellen Esterhay scored two goals for the Continentals. Dewi Caswell played the opening 30 minutes in goal and stopped five shots. Kari Koga came in for the final 36 minutes and finished with five saves.
Hamilton struck first 3:06 into the game. Friedman's unassisted tally gave the Continentals an early advantage. It wasn't until 14:22 that Schultz capitalized on a free position to make it 2-0. Scheibel put the Herons on the scoreboard at 23:58 after a pass from Gillan. Schultz responded a little under a minute later, and Scheibel took advantage of a free position with 2:11 left in the first half to make it 3-2 at the break.
Esterhay stretched the Continentals' lead to two with a free position goal 3:37 into the second half. Scheibel caused a turnover deep in Hamilton's defensive zone to create a scoring opportunity for herself. She found the back of the net for the third time in the game and 19th time this season at 5:40. Johnson scored 2:35 later off a feed from the top of the fan to tie the game up at four.
Katie D'Antonio sent home a shot to take back the lead for the Continentals at 13:03. Ragan answered after a pass from Scheibel to tie the game at five at 17:40. At 19:44, senior

Katie Dexter from the right side. Dexter scored on a shovel shot to give William Smith its first lead of the game at 6-5. With 4:29 left in regulation, Kathryn Maiorano tied things up at six to send the game into overtime.
Hamilton scored three straight goals to start overtime. Esterhay struck first just 1:29 in. Friedman tallied back-to-back goals including what proved to be the game-winner. With 39 seconds left in overtime, Ragan scored her second goal of the game and 18th of the season for the final margin.
Hamilton held a 35-21 advantage in shots and a 35-29 edge in ground balls. The Continentals won 11 draws, while William Smith recorded eight. Hamilton was successful on 19 of 24 clears, while the Herons finished 19-for-29.
William Smith will be back in action on Friday, April 13, when the Herons travel to take on Skidmore for a Liberty League contest at 4 p.m.
