TROY, N.Y.—The Rensselaer women's lacrosse team's Jamie Wakefield scored a game-high six goals to lead the Engineers to a 19-9 win over visiting William Smith in a Liberty League game played this afternoon. Rensselaer improves to 11-1 overall and 5-1 in league play. The Herons are now 5-6 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League.
Marissa Page added four goals for RPI, and Meg Coliz chipped in three goals and an assist. Madeline Sisson and Rachel Scofield each contributed two goals and an assist. Shannon Maguire earned two assists and won a game-high seven draws. Allie Arnal played the opening 54:07 and stopped 11 shots. Muryum Khalid came in for the final 5:53 and made one save.

Lucy Johnson and
Rosie Scheibel led William Smith with three goals apiece. Junior
Kathleen Ragan scored twice and picked up three ground balls. Senior
Callie Frelinghuysen scooped up a game-high five ground balls. First-year
Katie Sipple registered a goal and an assist. Sophomore
Maggie McNair played all 60 minutes in net and finished with five saves.
Goals by Scofield and Page gave RPI a 2-0 lead just 1:37 in. Ragan made it 2-1 at 3:31, but back-to-back tallies by Wakefield made it 4-1. Sipple fed Scheibel who cut the Heron deficit back to two, but Sisson responded with back-to-back goals to give the Engineers a 6-2 advantage. Johnson and Wakefield traded tallies to make it 7-3 midway through the first half. William Smith got within one after a 3-0 run featuring goals two goals by Johnson with a tally from Scheibel in between. Wakefield and Page each scored to give RPI a 9-6 lead. Liz Seidel sent a pass to Ragan who sent home a shot, but Page scored again with nine seconds left in the first to give Rensselaer a 10-7 lead at halftime.
The teams traded goals for the first 5:27 of the second half to make the score 12-9. Sipple and Scheibel scored for William Smith. However, the Engineers finished the game on a 7-0 run for the final. Colitz scored twice and Maguire was credited with two assists in the run.
Rensselaer enjoyed a 38-26 advantage in shots and a 24-14 lead in ground balls. The Engineers won 17 draws, while the Herons earned 13. William Smith was successful on 13-of-18 clear attempts, while RPI finished 16-for-17 on clears.
The Herons will be back in action on Tuesday, April 17, when they travel to take on Ithaca at 5 p.m.
