William Smith seeded 4th in Wendy's College Classic

The William Smith College basketball team will be the No. 4 seed in the 21st annual Wendy's College Classic this week. The Herons will play No. St. John Fisher College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Nazareth College.

William Smith is 1-1, opening the season with an 11-point loss to nationally ranked Ithaca and rebounding with a 22-point win over Keuka. Junior forward Chloe Hayter is averaging a double-double with team-highs of 17.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg. Junior guard Ali Pliszka is contributing 13.5 ppg while senior guards Erin O'Brien and Jacqueline Murphy both average 10.5 ppg. O'Brien has a team-high 10 assists and Murphy adds 7.5 rpg.

The Cardinals are 4-2 following a 67-63 loss to Union on Sunday. Prior to that setback, Fisher had won four in a row. Camaryn Buckner paced the team with 14.3 ppg and 10.7 rpg. She's also blocked 12 shots this year. Mary Kate Cusack chips in 12.5 ppg and 4.2 spg. 

William Smith won the third place game in last year's Classic, defeating Brockport 58-56.

This will be the first meeting between the two school since the Herons defeated the Cardinals 69-62 in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Championship.

Roberts Wesleyan is the top seed with Rochester and Geneseo rounding out the top three. RIT, Brockport, and Nazareth are the No. 6 through No. 8 seeds, respectively.

The second round games will be hosted by Roberts Wesleyan and RIT on Thursday, Dec. 5, with the final round games played at Roberts Wesleyan and Brockport on Saturday, Dec. 7.
