Box Score The William Smith College basketball team finished fifth in the 21st annual Wendy's College Classic thanks to a 65-51 win at Brockport this afternoon. The Herons led for nearly the entire contest, registering season-highs for blocked shots (6), 3-pointers made (7), and assists (17).

Chloe Hayter scored a game-high 17 points to lead William Smith (3-2). Guard
Sasha Borenstein added 16 points, including four 3-pointers, as many as the Golden Eagles made as a team. Guard

The Golden Eagles took their only lead of the night just two minutes in, 4-3. William Smith responded with 12 unanswered points to seize control of the contest. Borenstein dialed long distance twice during the run. The Herons stretched their advantage to as many as 15 before Brockport used a 12-3 run to make it a 6-point game with three minutes left in the first half.Â
William Smith closed out the first half with a 7-2 surge to expand its lead to 35-24 at halftime. Borenstein led all scorers with 11 at the break. The Herons shot 43.8 percent in the opening 20 minutes and held their hosts to 28.6 percent shooting.
William Smith maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half. While the Herons' shooting percentage dipped to 38.5 percent, the visitors' turned up the intensity on their defense, harassing the Golden Eagles into 23.1 percent shooting.
William Smith will be back on the court on Saturday, Dec. 14, when the Herons visit Cortland. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
