The Hobart College football team's coaching staff will wear Coach to Cure MD arm patches during the Statesmen's Liberty League opener at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, Sept. 26. Kickoff at Brooks Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Â
Coaches nationwide will support the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) efforts to fight muscular dystrophy this weekend, wearing a Coach to Cure MD patch on the sidelines. College football fans will be asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest nonprofit organization in the United States to focus solely on Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Â
Football fans can donate to Duchenne muscular dystrophy research by either going on-line to
www.CoachtoCureMD.org or by
texting the word CURE to 90999 (a $5 donation will automatically be added to your next phone bill).
Â
Last year, more than 10,000 college coaches at more than 600 institutions participated in Coach to Cure MD events. The seven-year fundraising total (2008-14) is now over $1.25 million.
Â
The Statesmen (2-1) are looking to bounce back from a 24-6 loss at then No. 24 Ithaca last week. The Hobart defense, which ranks sixth in the nation in total defense (186.7 yds/g), played well, but the offense committed six turnovers and manufactured only 159 yards.
Â
The Mariners (1-1) are also attempting to rebound from a defeat, falling 24-14 to SUNY Maritime last week.
Â
Hobart leads the all-time series against Merchant Marine 11-4, having won each of the past 11 meetings. The Statesmen are 5-2 at Brooks Stadium.
Â
The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3 in Geneva).
