ITHACA, N.Y.-The William Smith College swimming and diving team eclipsed two more school records at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships today. The Herons 400-yard medley relay team twice lowered the school record and first-year
Anna Leffler broke a 34-year old record with her 100-yard backstroke split.

Kelsey Bohl teamed up to break their second school record in two days. This morning they posted a time of 3:58.33, lowering the school record set at last year's state meet by nearly three seconds. The Herons posted the fifth fastest qualifying time. In the evening's championship final, Leffler, Conboy, Katchis, and Bohl finished fifth, lowering their record by six-hundredths of a second, stopping the clock at 3:58.27. In the leadoff leg, Leffler touched the wall at 59.50, breaking a 34-year old 100 backstroke record held by Vibeke Hopkinson '83. The record was the oldest remaining record on the books for the Herons.

Kelsey McElwain finished sixth in the third level final, 22nd overall, with a time of 4:14.55. They dropped two seconds off of their morning preliminary swim.

William Smith started this evening's finals with a top-10 finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Bohl, Conboy, Haskins, and Leffler finished seventh overall, posting a time of 1:40.17, the second fastest time in school history, thirty-three-hundredths of a second behind school record pace.

Individually, the Herons earned points from Katchis and Haskins in the 100 butterfly. The duo finished 1-2 in the third level final earning 16 points towards the team total. Katchis won the heat with a 1:00.71, out touching Haskins by 47-hundredths of a second.

In the team standings, William Smith stayed in eighth place with 225 points. The Herons are 75 points behind seventh place Nazareth and 26 points ahead of ninth place St. Lawrence. Host Ithaca leads the team competition with 778 points, 194 points ahead of Rensselaer.

The championships continue tomorrow morning with preliminaries at 10 a.m.
