The Hobart and William Smith Colleges cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships in Logan Township, N.J., on Saturday, Nov. 10. The women's 6-kilometer race will start at 11 a.m. with the men's 8k to follow at noon.
Â
The championship is being hosted by Rowan University at the Gloucester County DREAM Park.
Â
The young, skilled William Smith core will look to build off its seventh place finish two weeks ago at the Liberty League Championships in Potsdam, N.Y. The Herons will go head-to-head with runners from 49 other schools in the region.
Â
First-year Reily Poisson continues to set the pace on a weekly basis for the Herons. The five-time Liberty League Rookie of the week has compiled two victories, five top-five finishes, and a career-best 6k time of 23:03.4. At the Liberty League Championships on October 27, she placed 26th out of 115 runners. It was just the second time she placed outside of the top-10 this season.
Â
Senior
Eva Gurian, junior
Jules Picuri and first-years
Mikayla Gullace and
Courtney Page have amplified the impact of Poisson's dominance all season with consistently strong performances of their own. Picuri paced the Herons at the regional a year ago, finishing 103rd out of 285 runners, improving her season-best time by 41 seconds.
Â
Gurian recorded her own 6k best of the season at the Liberty League Championships at 24:30.3, good enough for 69th place. Picuri, Gullace and Page were not far behind. Picuri came in 77th, Gullace right behind her in 78th while Page rounded out the group in 85th.
Â
On the men's side, Hobart will look to surpass its 26th place finish at the regional from a year ago. The Statesmen placed 26th out of 42 teams as Geneseo took home the championship. However, five Statesmen,
Max Tulchinsky,
William Fletcher,
Josh Wasserman, Zachary Von Reitzenstein and
Tyler Sutherland, were all able to log season best 8k times at the event.
Â
Tulchinsky, the anchor for this Statesmen squad, will look to replicate that performance from a year ago. With a 2018 season-best 8k time of 26:57.1 at the Liberty League Championships on Oct. 27, he was able to tie the mark he set at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships a year ago.
Â
Juniors
Josh Wasserman and
William Fletcher round out the top three for Hobart. Finishing right behind Tulchinsky last year in second and third place, respectively, Wasserman and Fletcher will look to build upon that success this weekend.
