GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball has joined college basketball teams across the nation in the fight against cancer by participating in the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's Play4Kay National Free Throw Challenge.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund's mission is to extend and improve the lives of those who are battling cancer, on the way to finding a cure, by raising money for research and assisting the underserved.
Fans can support the Herons and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund by pledging a specific amount per free throw made in February or simply make a one-time donation. Through the first four games this month, William Smith is averaging 13 free throws made per game with at least two games remaining.

The Herons (13-10, 7-9) will host a pair of Liberty League games this weekend, facing Vassar (16-7, 11-5) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 and Union (7-15, 4-12) at 2 p.m. on Feb. 17. William Smith is tied with Rensselaer for the sixth and final spot in the Liberty League Tournament.
Before the start of Saturday's game, William Smith will honor its two seniors
Kendra Quinn-Moultrie and
Sarah Brophy. Then at halftime of the game against the Dutchwomen, the Heron Athletic Department will present a check to Embrace Your Sisters, a local charity that provides emergency financial support for people with breast cancer.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink to Bristol Gym on Saturday to support people with breast cancer and breast cancer survivors.
Prior to the start of Friday's game, William Smith will recognize junior
Mia Morrison, who became the 17th Heron to record her 1,000th career point last Friday at Skidmore. The Geneva native leads the team leads the team in scoring (18.0 ppg), rebounding (9.1 rpg), blocked shots (1.0 bpg) and steals (1.5 spg) this season.
