The Hobart College tennis team will compete in the 2018 Liberty League Tournament this weekend, May 4-6, in Ithaca, N.Y. The matches will take place at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University.

The Statesmen, who are ranked 36th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Men's Rankings, concluded the regular season with a 12-6 overall record and a 6-2 mark in conference play. Hobart earned the third seed into this weekend's tournament and will play sixth-seeded St. Lawrence (7-10, 3-5) in Friday's first round match up. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on the outdoor courts at the Reis Tennis Center. If Friday's forecast for rain holds, both the men's and women's tournaments will be moved to the indoor courts at Cornell. The Statesmen and Saints match will be scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. indoors. Â In Friday's other first round match, fourth-seeded Ithaca (6-9, 5-3) will take on fifth-seeded Vassar (6-12, 4-4) at 10 a.m., 9 a.m. if matches are moved indoors.

Top-seeded Skidmore (11-5, 8-0) and second-seeded Rensselaer (13-3, 7-1) earned first round byes. The winner of the Ithaca/Vassar match will take on the 25th-ranked Thoroughbreds in the first semifinal on Saturday at 10 a.m. while the Hobart/St. Lawrence winner will take on the Engineers at 2 p.m.

Sophomore
Alan Dubrovsky, the nation's 31st ranked singles player, is a team best 20-7 in singles play this season with a 7-1 record against the Liberty League. With a win over Vassar, he became the first Statesmen to win 20 singles matches in a season in 14 years. He was 8-4 at No. 1 and 4-2 in the No. 2 spot this year. On April 8, Dubrovsky bested St. Lawrence's Eric Tecce 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot.

Harry Nichols are 5-1 as a duo this spring with a 4-1 record at No. 2.

The Saints are led by first-year Leo Romanetz who was 13-10 in singles play this year. He compiled an 11-6 record at No. 2 singles and a 3-5 record against the Liberty League. In the match against the Statesmen last month, he was defeated by
Jonah Salita in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 10-7. Jordan Mamelak and Eric Tecce are second on the team with nine wins each. Romanetz and Tecce are a team best 12-10 in doubles play this spring with an 8-9 record in the No. 1 spot. They were edged by Salita and Dubrovsky 9-7 in their first meeting.
