#17 Herons host #19 Bombers

The 17th-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team will host 19th-ranked Ithaca on Wednesday, April 10 on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium. Opening draw in scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
The Herons are 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the Liberty League after sweeping Clarkson and St. Lawrence this past weekend. William Smith leads the Liberty League and is 19th in the nation in scoring defense (7.00 gpg). Individually, the Herons are led by sophomore attack Ellie Burns' 37 goals and 42 points. She is third in the conference in goals per game (3.08 gpg). First-year Payton McMahon is second on the team with 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points. Junior Rachel Slagle leads the team with 15 assists. Sophomore Mekayla Montgomery has a team-high 42 ground balls, 31 caused turnovers and 60 draws.
 
Sophomores Olivia Hofmann and Jules Kennedy have split time in goal this season. They are first and second in the conference, respectively, in goals against average. Hofmann is 4-0 with a 6.18 GAA and a .475 save percentage. Kennedy is 6-2 with a 7.59 GAA and a .465 save percentage.
 
Wednesday's game will be the 52nd meeting between William Smith and Ithaca. The Herons currently hold a 30-21 advantage in the series that dates back to 1977. William Smith holds a 15-10 edge in Geneva. The Herons swept both meetings with the Bombers last season. William Smith won 9-8 in Ithaca during the regular season and then won 15-10 on Boswell Field to claim its third consecutive Liberty League title.  
 
Ithaca enters the game with an 8-3 overall record and a 5-0 mark in conference play. The Bombers have won their last four games. Ithaca leads the Liberty League in scoring offense, averaging 15.18 gpg. The Bombers are led by Bailey Herr. She has 31 goals and 23 assists for 54 points so far this season. Elizabeth Rice is right behind her with 29 goals. Allie Panara leads the team with 25 assists and is second with 36 points. Reid Simoncini leads the Bombers with 30 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers and has won 68 draws.
 
Mackenzie Schade has played every minute in goal for the Bombers this season. She is 8-3 overall with an 11.09 GAA and a .374 save percentage.
