Scibetta, Rollins honored at Heron Awards banquet

Junior forward Gina Scibetta and senior defender Laura Rollins were presented the William Smith College ice hockey awards at the annual William Smith Athletics Banquet, April 23. Scibetta received the Ice Hockey Award as the team's most valuable player while Rollins took home the Ice Hockey Coach's Award.
 
An AHCA second team All-American and an All-USCHO third team selection, Scibetta is the ice hockey team's first All-American. She had a breakout season, recording a career-high 22 goals, 18 assists and 40 points this season.  Scibetta shattered the Herons' single season goals and points records on her way to earning All-UCHC honors. She finished the year eighth in the nation in points per game (1.43) and ninth in goal per game (0.79). Her 40 points were second in the UCHC. Scibetta logged a career-high four points twice this season. She recorded her first career hat trick and added an assist against King's and had two goals and two assists in William Smith's season-opening win over Salve Regina. She had four points (2g, 2a) during the UCHC Tournament, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.
 
Scibetta has played in all 79 games of her collegiate career. She has 36 goals, 38 assists and 74 points. Scibetta is second on William Smith's all-time list in goals, third in points, and fourth in assists. She also received the Hazel Nettleship Hardy '65 Award, presented to a student in her middle years who has contributed to the growth of Heron athletics and is an excellent representative of William Smith Athletics.
 
A captain, Rollins played in all 28 games this season. She had a career high 17 points on two goals and 15 assists. On the defensive end of the ice, Rollins had a team-high 39 blocked shots. She was a key member of William Smith's penalty kill that ranked 12th in the nation, killing off 88.6 percent of its opponent's power-play opportunities. Rollins had a pair of assists in wins over Neumann and King's. In William Smith's second game against the Monarchs, she had a goal and an assist.
 
Rollins played in a program record 104 games during her career. She had six goals and 34 assists for 40 points. Rollins is fifth on William Smith's career assists list and ninth on the points list. She also earned the Joseph N. Abraham Memorial Training Award.
 
William Smith finished the season with an 18-8-2 overall record. The Herons won their first two playoff games in program history before falling to Elmira in the UCHC Championship game. William Smith set program records for wins (18), goals (117), assists (191), and points (308) this season. The Herons were one of nine teams in Division III to score 100 goals this season.
