The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team was in action at three regattas this weekend, Oct. 2-3. The Colleges won the Kings Point Dinghy Open hosted by the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. In addition,
Chase Carraway placed third at the Carl Van Duyne Trophy, the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Men's Singlehanded Championship also in Kings Point.

At the Kings Point Dinghy Open HWS placed first in a field of 22 teams, compiling 80 points on the weekend.
Jake Vickers and
Kate Klempen sailed in A Division for HWS, finishing first with 44 points. Vickers and Klempen crossed the line in the top 10 in all but one race. They were in the top three in seven races and won the sixth race.
Will Murray and
Frances Depke competed in B Division. They were second with 36 points. Murray and Depke crossed the line in the top 10 in all but two races, winning four. Jacksonville was second in the regatta, 10 points behind HWS.

At the MAISA Singlehanded Championships, the Statesmen were led by Carraway and
Nicholas Sessions, who finished third and fourth, respectively. Carraway compiled 63 points on the weekend and matched his 2019 finish at the regatta. He crossed the line in the top 10 in 11 races and won the first, fourth and seventh races on Saturday. Sessions, who was making his first appearance at the conference championship regatta registered 70 points on the weekend. He won the sixth race and posted 10 top 10 finishes.
William Foox and
Pete McGriff also competed at the conference championship regatta, placing 11th and 18th, respectively. Foox crossed the line inside the top 10 in six races and had 124 points on the weekend. McGriff completed the 12 race regatta with 191 points. St. Mary's Maryland's Leo Boucher won his third consecutive Carl Van Duyne Trophy, finishing the weekend with 35 points, 27 points clear of the second place finisher.

William Smith sailors were also in action in St. Mary's, Maryland, for the Women's ACC Round 1 regatta. The Herons were 10th in the 16-team field, finishing the weekend with 247 points.
Ella Withington and Sara Smith sailed in A Division for William Smith, placing seventh with 120 points. They had six top-10 finishes, including a second place in the fourth race. Camile McGriff and
Anna McBride competed in B division, finishing 10th with 127 points. They had seven top 10 finishes and won the fourth race. Yale won the regatta, finishing the weekend with 80 points. The top nine teams secured a spot in the ACC Championship Finals while the final seven teams will compete in the ACC Tournament at MIT. The Herons missed the Championship regatta by 13 points.
HWS will be back in action next weekend Oct. 9-10, for a pair of regattas. The Colleges will travel to New Haven, Connecticut for the ACC Dinghy Elimination hosted by Yale. HWS will also head back to St. Mary's City for the St. Mary's Oyster Bowl Regatta.
